New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis is no stranger to cat-and-mouse games involving the team’s front office, but amidst rumblings that the Jets could part ways with him, Revis is questioning his future with Gang Green now more so than ever.

He may be the best cornerback on the planet, but that hasn’t stopped the New York Jets and newly hired general manager John Idzik from exploring the trade market for All-Pro defensive back Darrelle Revis.

In a sit-down with NFL Network’s Andrea Kremer, Revis shared his initial reaction when reports surfaced that his name could be placed on the NFL’s trading block.

“I was speechless because I didn't get a phone call," Revis admitted during an interview that aired on NFL Total Access.

"I know it's a business -- just call me; don't have it lingering out there. I need answers and I'm not getting any. Just the fact that that was put out there instead of contacting your best player on the team. If that's how you want to do business, then that's fine."

At his introductory press conference, Idzik didn’t rule out the possibility of fielding trade offers for Revis, insisting he would leave no stone unturned in his quest to retool New York’s depleted roster.

Evidentially Idzik’s direct approach rubbed Revis the wrong way.

“To me it was kind of rude because it was John Idzik’s first day on the job,” urged Revis on his general manager’s comments fueling trade speculation.

Idzik eventually made a phone call to Revis in an apparent attempt to put out the fire and get everyone on the same page.

“He was a straightforward guy,” admitted Revis of Idzik’s style. “He didn’t cut any corners. Just from that one conversation I do respect him.”

Idzik was not the only one to touch base with Revis during a torrent of trade rumors as head coach Rex Ryan checked in with his star cornerback to talk about No. 24’s life off the gridiron.

“Me and Rex, we got a cool relationship,” admitted Revis. “It wasn’t really all about being traded. It was about other things. ‘How’s the family?’ ‘How you doing?' "

While Idzik remained non-committal on Revis’ future in New York, Ryan left little doubt as to where he stands.

“I know Rex, he wants me to be here,” noted Revis. “Me and him both know it’s a business. I’m sure he’ll have some say-so, but starts from the top. It starts with Woody Johnson.”

With the Jets mired in salary cap hell, Revis understands that the team’s current financial bind may impact the likelihood of him inking a long-term contract with Gang Green.

“That might be a situation,” admitted Revis of the Jets not matching his contract demands. “That might be something, that might be an option.”

Ultimately the decision to bring back Revis could be above both Idzik’s and Ryan’s heads, with the burden falling squarely on the shoulders of owner Woody Johnson. As the Jets weigh their options, Revis indicated that his preference is to stay with the Jets.

“If I do get traded I’m not going to sit here and pout and cry, but I’ve told them numerous times that I want to be there,” said Revis. “So it’s up to them and management of what they want to do. “

With Revis feverishly rehabbing from ACL surgery, the Jets might not get fair trade value in return for an elite player looking to bounce back from a serious knee injury. By all indications Revis’ road to recovery has been very smooth and he anticipates being ready for training camp in July.

“I don’t know if they’re doing because they think I’m not going to get back to 100 percent,” mentioned Revis of the Jets potentially trading him coming off injury. “I’m a Jet until they tell me I’m not a Jet. “
