EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Oregon women’s basketball team won its second consecutive game Tuesday night, defeating the Samford Bulldogs 72-61 at Matthew Knight Arena.

Four Ducks scored in double figures led by Junior Danielle Love with a game-high 17 points. Junior Ariel Thomas scored 15, while sophomore Jordan Loera added 14. Freshman Jillian Alleyne contributed 11 points of her own to go with her game-high 19 rebounds.

Defensively, Oregon recorded seven steals and four blocks, while Samford only managed one of each. Thomas led the Ducks with steals, while Alleyne and sophomore Megan Carpenter blocked two shots each.

As a team, the Ducks outshot the Bulldogs 40.7 percent (22-of-54) to 33.8 percent (22-of-65) from the field and 37.5 percent (9-of-24) to 33.3 percent (11-of-33) from beyond the arc.

Loera started things off with a three-pointer on the first possession of the game followed by a mid-range jumper off a steal and subsequent assist from Ariel Thomas to put Oregon up 5-0. On the Ducks’ next possession, Loera recorded an assist of her own as she dished the ball out to Danielle Love for a three-point basket. Yet another Oregon three-pointer by Thomas put the Ducks up 11-0 with 18 minutes remaining in the first half.

After trading baskets, Samford cut the Ducks’ lead to 20-19 with an 11-0 run of their own. The Bulldogs managed the tie the game at 22 a piece with 9:10 remaining, before Oregon extended the lead once again. The Ducks closed the half up 37-27 with the advantage in rebounds, assists, blocks, steals, three-point field goal percentage and overall shooting percentage. Oregon shot an impressive 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from three-point range in the first period.

Samford opened the half with a 10-0 run, tying the game once again. A 9-0 run by the Ducks put the game out of reach, however, as Samford was unable to regain a lead.

Oregon finished with a 20-4 advantage in points in the paint, while also leading Samford in fast break points (19-3) and points off turnovers (14-5).

The Ducks (2-7) return to the hardwood on Friday, Dec. 21 at Portland with tip-off at noon.
